Word Vault — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2025
This privacy policy covers how Word Vault (“we, "our”) uses your data.
Topics:
What data do we collect?
- Word Vault does not directly collect any personal data, such as your name, email, or the words and other content you add within the app. The only operational data that may be recorded is the number and timing of cloud lookups linked to your pseudonymous App User ID (see below). Word Vault also integrates with third-party services, including RevenueCat and Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics.
- The app may include an optional link to a short feedback form hosted on Microsoft Forms. Responses are anonymous and not linked to any personal or app usage data.
App User ID (pseudonymous)
- Word Vault generates a randomly created App User ID the first time you launch the app.
- This ID is stored locally and in your iCloud Key-Value Store, allowing it to sync across your Apple devices. This ID is used to validate your subscription and to apply rate limiting (see below).
- This app user ID is not linked to your real-world identity, is not shared with third parties for advertising, and is only used for the stated purposes.
Rate Limiting
- To enforce fair-use limits, Word Vault may record the number and timing of cloud dictionary lookup requests made using your App User ID.
- Local/offline lookups (using previously cached definitions) do not count toward this limit.
- These limits are generous and will not affect normal, everyday use. They exist only as a safeguard against automated abuse or excessive use that could disrupt the service.
RevenueCat (subscription validation)
- Word Vault uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat associates your App User ID with your purchases so your subscription can be validated across your devices.
- RevenueCat may also collect:
- Your subscription status
- Apple purchase receipts
- Product identifiers (i.e. annual vs monthly)
- Your subscription purchase history
- For more details on the data RevenueCat collects and how it handles it, please refer to RevenueCat's privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/.
Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (usage, error & crash reports)
- Word Vault uses Firebase services provided by Google to collect anonymous app usage analytics, errors, and crash reports.
- This may include:
- App usage events (e.g. which features are used)
- Device information (e.g. the device model)
- Crash logs and error reports
- This information is anonymous and is not linked to your word content or personal identity.
- You can disable this collection of analytics and crash data at any time by switching “Enable Analytics” off in the app settings.
How do we collect your data?
- Word Vault itself does not collect or transmit any personal data to its servers.
- Word Vault generates and stores a pseudonymous App User ID on your device and in your iCloud account when you first open the app.
- When you initiate a purchase, RevenueCat collects transaction-related data directly from the App Store using the App Store receipt, which is then associated with your App User ID to ensure access to the services you purchased.
- In addition, your rate of cloud dictionary lookups may be recorded together with your App User ID and stored in Google Firebase (Firestore). This data is controlled by Word Vault and is only used to protect against automated abuse or excessive use that could disrupt the service.
- Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics automatically collect anonymous usage, error, and crash data while you use the app. This collection only occurs if analytics are enabled in the app’s settings.
How will we use your data?
- Word Vault does not directly collect any personal data from you.
- The randomly generated App User ID is only used to:
- Apply rate limiting to protect the service from abuse.
- Identify your subscription with RevenueCat, which in turn uses it to:
- Validate your subscription
- Determine your entitlement status.
- Restore purchases across devices linked to your Apple ID.
- Anonymous usage, error and crash data collected by Firebase is used to:
- Improve app stability and performance.
- Identify and fix bugs or errors.
- Understand feature usage and improve the app experience.
How do we store your data?
- Word Vault does not store any personal data on its servers.
- The randomly generated App User ID is stored on your device and in your iCloud Key-Value Store and is used to:
- To enable rate limiting to protect the service against abuse.
- Validate your subscription and other related information.
- For rate-limiting purposes, Word Vault may also record the number and timing of cloud dictionary lookup requests associated with your App User ID. This data is stored in a Google Firebase (Firestore) database and is used internally only to enforce fair-use limits and protect the service. The data is stored in accordance with Google’s privacy practices https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- All subscription and purchase data is handled and stored by RevenueCat in accordance with their privacy practices. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/.
- Analytics, error and crash data are handled and stored by Google (Firebase) in accordance with their privacy practices: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Your data protection rights
- You have rights under applicable data protection laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. You may also have the right to restrict or object to certain types of processing, and to request data portability.
- Because Word Vault does not collect names, emails, or other personal identifiers, we can only act on requests if you provide your App User ID (available in the app’s settings).
- For subscription data (handled via RevenueCat), we will process your request as the data controller and may coordinate with RevenueCat as our processor.
- For rate-limiting data (request counts linked to your App User ID), we may be able to delete this data on request. This will reset your lookup history but will not affect your subscription status.
- For analytics and crash data (handled by Firebase), this information is anonymous and cannot be linked back to you individually. However, you can disable all future collection at any time by turning off “Enable Analytics” in the app’s settings.
